Structural and Graphic Design
We believe every packaging project has a dozen “gotchas” and if you are really, really good, you can probably avoid ten of them”. Our structural and graphic designers are experts at identifying and avoiding all 12 potential problems and are totally committed to 100% perfection.
There are two basic types of design work and in our opinion, they are equally important because if a box does not work well, how it looks is soon forgotten. Structural design determines how a package is constructed and how it performs. The second is graphic design which determines how a package looks. One is the shape/size/physical structure, and the other is the esthetic or appearance.

Structural Design
A great package always begins with a great structural design. It includes things such as:
- Box type – we usually discuss a several structural design options with our new clients because in many cases, the design they had in mind is not the best option available to them. It is all about helping them make an informed decision.
- Box dimensions – For cost and sustainable reasons, we are able to reduce to a size smaller than the brand owner anticipated. This reduces cost in multiple ways, including shipping and storage costs, as well as the cost of the box itself and any required inserts.
- Internal Packaging – is a divider, partition or die cut insert the right option for displaying your product or protecting it during shipment? This is our specialty, especially for glass or fragile products.
- Board type and grade – We look at board type, thickness, weight, and color, especially how it impacts the graphic design below.

Graphic Design
This is the part people like most, because everyone wants an attractive, eye-catching box. A few things to consider:
- Board selection as stated above. Kraft (brown) board varies in shade, especially recycled content board. We offer at least three different types/shades of white including bleached, mottle and Kemi or clay coated board. Your design, printing process, choice and colors will help determine which is best for your packaging.
- Ink and printing process choice. Flexographic, digital or litho label printing all vary in cost or results. Your graphic design, order quantity and budget will help you determine the option of choice for your project.
- Color choices. Board selection and ink and printing process above, all impact ink colors and choices. Flexographic printing uses eco-friendly water-based inks, and the other two do not. An identical ink color may look different on all three, so working with an experienced graphic designer is critical.
- We have been a new start-up, so we understand how important it is to minimize all costs. However, we encourage you to not skimp on your graphic designer. Our designers are experienced specifically in packaging, not web sites, signs, tee shirts, or other types of graphic design. Our people are also very price competitive so getting the right guidance is not going to cost as much as you think.
